FINAL: Sounders FC 0, New York Red Bulls 1, game thread

FINAL. New York Red Bulls 1, Sounders FC 0. A deserved result in the end, but Seattle could’ve stolen something had it put its chances away.

90+1′: Seattle earns a dangerous free kick and Montero takes it. His swerving shot is saved then Neagle skies the rebound.

90′: Three minutes of stoppage time. Seattle not nearly on the attack enough to feel threatening.

88′: SAVE! Tchani wins a header on a corner kick, but Keller taps it over the crossbar.

86′: This one’s winding down. Seattle trying to push forward.

81′: Levesque goal called back for a foul. Sounders FC supporters in the second deck didn’t hear the whistle.

79′: Seattle sub: Neagle for Carrasco.

73′: Seattle sub. Levesque on for White.

70′: GOAL NEW YORK! Juan Agudelo gets behind the defense on a long ball by Teemu Tainio. The youngster muscled off a challenge by Leo Gonzalez and finished past Keller. 1-0 Red Bulls.

69′: Montero back on. Keller stops a shot by Henry comfortably on the other end.

67′: Montero down after a collision with Sutton. Fernandez with a shrug as he realizes he’s coming off. For New York, Tchani in for Ballouchy.

65′: Mauro Rosales checking in for Sounders FC. Who does he come in for? It’ll be for Fernandez.

61′: Decent stuff from Seattle on the counterattack, Leo Gonzalez makes a good run but his shot is saved. Hurtado later booked for dragging down Agudelo.

59′: Ballouchy gets on the end of a corner kick but hits it wide. Seattle again on the back foot.

55′: Keller punches out a New York corner kick.

54′: Mauro Rosales, Lamar Neagle and Roger Levesque the most active in warmups.

51′: Rafa Marquez fires a long-distance shot but it’s over the goal and doesn’t bother Keller much.

46′: We’re off in the second half. No changes from what I see.

Halftime stats. Shots: NY 11-6, Shots on goal: SEA 5-2, Saves: NY 5-2, Fouls: SEA 5-4, Corner kicks: NY 6-0, Offsides: SEA 2-0

Halftime. Sounders FC 0, New York Red Bulls 0. The ref blows the whistle after two minutes of stoppage time. Seattle absorbed a lot of pressure in the first 45 min. but had some quality chances as well.

45′: Leo with a strong run and Flaco gets it to Montero. The Colombian makes a move to his right but his shot hits the post. Later Fernandez with a good cross, but no one there in front of the goal.

44′: Keller strong on the ball as Henry tries to kick it from his hands.

39′: SAVE! Montero behind the defense on a 1-2 with Flaco, but Sutton stones him. On the rebound attempts, led by O’Brian White, it looked like Lindpere handled the ball. No call. Sigi’s upset and barking at the fourth official.

38′: Richards down and needs treatment. Latest update from Vancouver, 4-2 Whitecaps.

36′: Friberg offside as his shot is saved into the side-netting.

35′ Red Bulls left back Roy Miller very active so far.

33′: Carrasco with a huge sliding tackle in the box! Defense clears another cross. The backline has absorbed pressure well. Richards nearly breaks through.

32′: Things a little testy between Flaco and Ballouchy. Ref talks to ’em both.

30′: Keller has been off his line well to snuff out danger.

27′: Montero fires from 40 yards but Sutton has trouble with it! The movement Fredy puts on his shots with the ball is incredible.

25′: Friberg and Flaco putting in decent work up and down the flanks. I’d suspect both will need 60-65 minute subs. Alonso able to play higher up with Carrasco out there.

23′: O’Brian White tries to run down a long ball. Gets there the same time as Sutton, but no one is there to clean up. Montero?

18′: Roy Miller a great bit of skill to nutmeg Flaco. New York wins a corner kick a few moments later. Not much comes of it.

17′: Keller with the save after Ballouchy wins a ball in Seattle’s box and shoots. Not too dangerous, but could’ve been.

16′: Great 1-2 by Flaco and Montero, but the Uruguayan can’t finish the 1v1 chance with Sutton.

13′: Lots of stuff coming through Henry, Agudelo and Lindpere. Sounders can’t hold onto the ball.

12′: New York on the attack now. Lots of corner kicks, crosses, chances.

9′: PENALTY SAVE! New York gets a PK after Hurtado takes out Agudelo in the box. Henry’s shot is taken low and to the right, but Keller dives to keep it out.

8′: Friberg a tough cross into White, but he can’t control it.

5′: Montero onside behind the defense! But he can’t control it. Sutton cleans up.

4′: Marquez eventually with the cross after a couple passes. Henry gets a weak shot off, but Keller can’t control it. Out for a corner kick. Comes to the far post to Henry, but his jumping kick is off target.

3′: Ozzie whistled for a high elbow, challenging Ballouchy in the air. Free kick coming.

1′: And we’re off! Friberg on the left. Carrasco with a good challenge on Tainio early.

Pregame: Lots of pregame fireworks. We’ll see if the action holds suit on the pitch.

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Seattle in green-green-blue, a familiar look on the road. New York in white-red-white. Still a lot of empty seats here.

Pregame: Sigi Schmid turns 58 years old tomorrow. I’m sure we can guess what he wants for his birthday.

Pregame: Jeff Parke with a couple hugs and handshakes on his return to New York.

Pregame: With Carrasco in the middle, I expect Friberg to play on the left. But we’ll see.

Pregame: On a chilly night, we’re about 30 minutes from kickoff. I’m already losing feeling in my fingers in this outdoor pressbox, but we do what we can. Big news of the day: rookie midfielder Servando Carrasco making his debut (in the starting lineup no less).
