Gregory Richardson joins Sounders FC camp on trial

gregoryrichardson.jpgPractice was closed today until the last few minutes, so I really won’t have many pictures or training insights to share. I did notice, however, one new player participating in finishing drills at the end.

Meet Gregory Richardson.

According to his Wikipedia page (take it for what it is), Richardson is a well-traveled 28-year-old who played briefly for Colorado in 2009. He was apparently waived midseason and has played for the Carolina RailHawks since.

I asked Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid about him and he said they’re “just trying to look at him and see. He got recommended to us by a guy who I like the way he looks at players. He says he’s worthwhile for us to look at right now so we are.”

Other notes from training: Schmid isn’t very forthcoming with specifics on injury updates (which is fine, that’s not meant to be a complaint, but an explanatory note). He implied Brad Evans, Steve Zakuani and Nate Jaqua were all able to train again today and haven’t had any setbacks — but didn’t use any names.

Each day, he said, was a reevaluation. We’ll see Friday, but I’d expect Zakuani to start and Jaqua to be on the bench. Not sure about Evans.
