Sounders FC vs. San Jose ‘Quakes, pregame and lineups

sanjose0402.JPGSANTA CLARA, Calif.–Welcome to Buck Shaw Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara University. It’s a beautiful, clear day here but not too hot — perfect for some, hopefully exciting, soccer action tonight.

Sounders FC comes down here winless in its first three games with just one goal to show for 270 minutes of play and 47 shots. San Jose is 1-1 but has played a reasonably tough schedule so far in games against Real Salt Lake (home) and FC Dallas (away). Well, at least one tough game.

The Earthquakes have a handful of local connections in Ellis McLoughlin, Joey Gjertsen and assistant coach Ian Russell. It’s also the first game of another two-leg bout for the Heritage Cup, which has certainly lost some of its luster — from whatever it had to begin with — as fan bases from Portland and Vancouver are declining participation. Either way, I’ve predicted a 1-1 draw. What do you think?

I’ll post lineups below when they become available.

Sounders FC lineup: GK Kasey Keller, D James Riley, D Patrick Ianni, D Jeff Parke, D Leo Gonzalez, M Erik Friberg, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Steve Zakuani, F Mauro Rosales, F O’Brian White

San Jose Earthquakes lineup: GK Jon Busch, D Chris Leitch, D Ramiro Corrales, D Brandon McDonald, D Jason Hernandez, M Sam Cronin, M Simon Dawkins, M Bobby Convey, M Joey Gjertsen, F Chris Wondolowski, F Ryan Johnson

Sounders FC reserves: GK Terry Boss, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Zach Scott, M Alvaro Fernandez, M Servando Carrasco, M David Estrada, F Nate Jaqua

San Jose Earthquakes reserves: GK Andrew Weber, D Bobby Burling; M Brad Ring, D Ike Opara, M Khari Stephenson, F Ellis McLoughlin, F Scott Sealy
