I have confirmed with Sounders FC that forward Fredy Montero (right) did indeed travel with the team to Philadelphia for Saturday’s game at PPL Park. He was one of 19 players that made the trip. As you may know, only 18 can suit up for the match — so there’s still a chance he won’t be available.
Coach Sigi Schmid was non-committal when asked Wednesday if Montero would make the trip. The 23-year-old Colombian’s gameday status will likely be determined after Friday’s training session.
Montero is still recovering from wrist surgery and is expected to be in a cast for the next three weeks at least. On Monday he was cleared to play, but with the offense playing well the last couple weeks there isn’t an urgent need to rush him back. Also, with Mike Fucito healthy again and Nate Jaqua available off the bench, Sounders FC has plenty of options up front.
