FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Philadelphia Union 1, game thread

NOTE: I’ll have some postgame notes on the Twitter feed.

FINAL. Sounders FC 1, Philadelphia Union 1. Super sub Alvaro Fernandez rescues a point for Seattle in stoppage time.

90+1′: GOAL SEATTLE! Fernandez heads in Montero’s cross. Writing duties taking over. Tied 1-1.

89′: Yellow card to Valdes. Seattle nearly gets one when Montero wins a Rosales cross, but it’s off target.

84′: PPL Park attendance: 15,149. That’s paid attendance. Not actual attendance.

82′: Corner kick to Seattle. Cleared by Nakazawa.

80′: Philly sub — Mapp in for Ruiz.

78′: SAVE! Zakuani cross pawed out by Mondragon, Flaco with a wide-open chance blocked by Califf!

76: Looks like Alvaro Fernandez will be the Sounders’ last sub on the day. He checks in at the bench and takes off the warm-ups. He comes in in the 78th minute for Friberg.

72′: Seattle putting on the pressure now. Philly trying to hold on.

69′: Sounders draw a dangerous foul. Montero finds Jaqua on the service, his header across is going toward Evans, but it’s cleared. Philly crowd excited about a counterattack chance, but it fizzles out.

66′:Okugo booked for a late challenge on Riley. Montero and Jaqua in for Gonzalez and White. That’s right, three defenders now.

64′: Nate Jaqua and Fredy Montero coming over to the Sounders FC bench. Appear to be coming in soon…

60′: Philly sub — Danny Mwanga in for Miglioranzi.

58′: Good defense by Hurtado, clearing out a dangerous Harvey cross. Moments later the ball comes out to Okugo for an open shot from distance, but Keller handles it well.

55′: Miglioranzi booked for taking out Rosales at midfield.

51′: Ruiz with a pretty feed to Le Toux on the right side, but his open chance is hit right at Keller for the comfortable save. No rebound chance given.

46′: We’re off in the second half. No changes from what I see.

Halftime: Some stats. Shots: PHI 4-2. Shots on goal: PHI 1-0. Saves: 0-0. Fouls: PHI 8-7. Corner kicks: PHI 1-0. Offsides: SEA 2-1.

Halftime: After one minute of stoppage time Terry Vaughn blows the whistle for halftime. Philadelphia leads 1-0 and probably had the better of the action. I’m not sure there’s another goal out there, but you never know.

44′: Not a great half for Seattle coming to a close. Might we see Jaqua or Fernandez as a halftime sub? Montero?

38′: Friberg sends a cross in, comes to Evans, his open shot in the box is mis-hit. Sails out for a goal kick.

34′: While looking live the free kick looked deflected, but maybe it swerved. I missed the replay. Anyone know if it took a touch or just swerved?

32′: GOAL PHILADELPHIA. Carlos Ruiz with a deflected free kick from about 25 yards. At least I think it was deflected as it sails by Keller. Union up 1-0.

31′: Alonso with the giveaway. Then booked for a foul on Nakazawa on the other end. Dangerous free kick coming.

30′: Zakuani and Rosales appear to combine well but the speedy left winger is offside on the return pass.

25′: Ruiz on the ground grabbing his head away from the play. Earns a dangerous free kick. Not sure what happened there. Le Toux takes it, curls a shot, but it’s off target.

24′: Sheets of rain pouring down now… Precipitation on my computer screen… And I’m in the second row back…

22′: Get combo play by Philly. Ruiz holds it and lays it off to Le Toux, who finds Daniel open on the left, but his shot is off target.

20′: White nearly puts Zakuani in on goal, but he can’t quite handle it and the ball is cleared.

17′: First corner kick to the Union. Taken by Daniel, flicked by Evans, falls to Nakazawa, but his shot narrowly misses the far post.

14′: Philadelphia playing a physical brand tonight, but to the refs’ credit, they’re calling the fouls.

13′: Rosales draws another dangerous foul. The Argentine takes it himself, driving a shot toward goal but it’s off target.

11′: Delayed foul call benefits the Sounders. White tried to get to Rosales’ cross, but it’s cleared.

9′: Contact in the Seattle penalty box on a dangerous throw-in. Whistles goes against the Union.

6′: Rosales sets up Friberg on the right, but his shot is blocked. Handball appeals waved off.

2′: Not a very big crowd. To be fair, the Flyers have an NHL playoff game today, the Sixers have an NBA playoff game today and the Phillies host some MLB action today. Not to mention the weather.

1′: And we’re off! Seattle in all rave green today. Philly in the dark blue ensemble.

Pregame: On what appears to be a late change, Terry Vaughn looks like he’s the referee today, not Andrew Chapin. Vaughn called that controversial PK in Dallas last year.

Pregame: Word is our blog software is down. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon. I’ll keep this thing updated as I normally would.

Pregame: Might the Sounders unveil the shale uniforms today?

Pregame: We’re about 20 minutes from kickoff here. This is the first time all season Seattle has started the same lineup in back-to-back weeks. Fredy Montero is available off the bench.
