FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Colorado Rapids 0, game thread

NOTE: There are some postgame notes on the Twitter feed, as usual.

Final. Sounders FC 1, Colorado Rapids 0. Big result for Seattle, but it was still a loss on some level with Zakuani’s injury. More to come.

90+’: Poor clearance by Ozzie leads to another corner kick, but Evans comes up huge to clear it. Seattle wastes time on the counter. Not much longer now surely.

90+’: Folan with a chance, but Riley with a big block. Out for a corner kick. Keller punches it out.

90′: Four minutes of stoppage time.

89′: Colorado dumping balls into the box now. A Nyassi corner kick is cleared out by Riley. An open shot comes out to Well Thompson, but three Sounders rush out to block it.

86′: Writing duties taking over. Colorado getting just enough chances to keep things interesting.

81′: Nyassi with a long run across the field, but can’t get a cross off. Montero booked for a foul on Drew Moor. Gonzalez replaces Fernandez.

77′: Folan actually issued the card in the two minutes later. Stayed on the ground and got treatment for an arm injury first. Leo Gonzalez getting ready to come in for Seattle.

75′: Folan swings and misses on a shot in the box. Then takes out Evans and gets a yellow card.

71′: Looks like Sanna Nyassi is coming in soon (he replaces Jamie Smith in the 72nd minute). Erik Friberg will soon come on for Mauro Rosales.

68′: Fredy Montero looked like he was going to take a throw-in there, cast and all. He relented and let James Riley take it instead. Another sub for the Rapids, Wells Thompson in for Mastroeni.

66′: Colorado sub: Anthony Wallace in for Tyrone Marshall.

63′: Another save for Keller. This one on a shot by Kimura from the right.

59′: Marshall with a foul on Montero. Despite the man advantage, it’s played like a somewhat even game.

54′: SAVE! Pickens with a big stop on White after Evans won an aerial battle to set up the shot in the box.

51′: Keller finally called upon to make a save. Comfortably handles the Larentowicz shot.

51′: No Conor Casey on the bench for the Rapids chasing the game at home. Expect to see Nyassi soon?

46′: We’re off in the second half. No subs for Sounders FC.

Halftime: Shots–SEA 5-3. Shots on goal–SEA 3-0. Saves–COL 2-0. Fouls–SEA 8-4. Corner kicks–SEA 3-0. Offsides–SEA 2-0.

Halftime: There’s the whistle. Sounders FC leads Colorado 1-0 at the break. Seattle already dealt a huge loss, however, with the Zakuani injury.

45′: Five minutes of extra time.

43′: The ball comes to Flaco in the penalty box, but his shot is blocked, by Marshall I think. Moments later Cummings gets the crowd excited with a good run but he skies the shot.

41′: Rapids with a free kick. Keller punches it out.

34′: Folan and Ianni get into it and the Sounders defender hits the deck. The crowd boos. Each gets a talking to from Petrescu.

32′: Still 1-0 Sounders. The goal will open up the game.

30′: Excuse me for the delay. I was writing a short story on Zakuani’s injury.

19′: GOAL SEATTLE! Fredy Montero, making his first start in a month, calmly collects a cross from Mauro Rosales and finishes past Matt Pickens to give Sounders FC a 1-0 lead.

18′: Riley with a big clearance on a dangerous Folan cross.

15′: The official word is Zakuani is being transported to the emergency room for x-rays of a possible fractured right leg or ankle.

Though the early feedback suggest it doesn’t look good.

14′: Back to soccer I guess. Alvaro Fernandez is on for Zakuani on the left. Colorado obviously down a man.

10′: Definitely some awkward vibes as play restarts. The three points on the line suddenly look much less meaningful.

7′: People at home have probably seen the replay a couple times by now. I haven’t, but it looked like a leg fracture. Sounded like it too, I’m sorry to say. A huge blow for Sounders FC most likely for the rest of the season.

5′: WOW. Steve Zakuani with a serious leg injury on a rash tackle by Brian Mullan. The stretcher is out.

3′: Both team

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: Not a bad crowd here as we have a couple more minutes for people to settle in. Here comes the walkout. Colorado in burgundy-white-burgundy. Seattle in all rave green again.

Pregame: Temperatures are dropping fast out here, meaning I got some gloves on. Forgive any typos in advance. My effective words-per-minute rate is on the decline.

Pregame: The big news so far is the lineup. IN: Montero, Ianni, Wahl. OUT: Friberg, Parke, Gonzalez. Rosales moves over to the right side of midfield. What do you think of the moves?
