More Steve Zakuani notes: Friday’s surgery “successful”

Sorry to get to this a little late, but I had an afternoon flight back to Seattle…

Surgery was successful Friday night at the Rose Medical Center in Denver. Zakuani is expected to stay there for several days.

— There is no timetable yet on his expected recovery.

— I asked a league spokesman what the procedure was for determining extra punishment, obviously in the case of Brian Mullan here. He said MLS closely reviews all games from the weekend and supplemental discipline is usually announced by Tuesday or Wednesday. So I’d expect an update then.

— Sounders FC is working on bringing Zakuani’s family over from England to be with the 23-year-old.

— Trainer Randy Noteboom stayed behind in Denver to be with Zakuani after surgery. The team flew out this afternoon.

— A Zakuani tribute might be in the works according to a tweet from part owner Drew Carey. Even if this particular one doesn’t work out, I’m sure there will be something in store next Saturday.
