Sounds like we’ll have to wait another day before we learn what extra punishment Colorado midfielder Brian Mullan will face for his injury-inducing tackle on Steve Zakuani. I’ve just heard from the league that an announcement of the MLS Disciplinary Committee’s decision will come Wednesday.
There was a chance the news would come out today, but that’s no longer the case.
At Sounders FC practice this afternoon, coach Sigi Schmid said whatever the punishment is it “doesn’t really matter because no matter what they do in their disciplinary action it doesn’t give Steve back to us. There’s nothing they can do. Obviously I think the league needs to look at it and send whatever message they feel is necessary so situations like this don’t occur as we move forward.”
Vancouver defender Jonathan Leathers could also be facing supplemental discipline for his ankle-breaking tackle on FC Dallas star and reigning MLS MVP David Ferreira.
(Note: MLS players are suspended with pay, but there is often a fine attached that serves as the monetary punishment.)
