FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Portland Timbers 1, game thread

NOTE: Postgame notes on my Twitter feed.

FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Portland Timbers 1. The visitors have to be thrilled to escape with a point.

90′: Two minutes of stoppage time.

87′: Sliding shot by Jewsbury goes wide.

84′: Portland sub: Ryan Pore comes on for Jorge Perlaza.

79′: Lamar Neagle, a Federal Way native, subs in for Nate Jaqua. Looks like Roger Levesque will slide up to forward. Neagle at right mid.

77′: Appeals for a handball in the Portland box get no response. Looked like the ball might’ve bounced on Danso’s hip and hit his hand. Play on.

73′: Writing duties starting to take over, so updates will be less frequent. Who will be the hero in this one?

65′: PORTLAND GOAL: And it’s a set piece that does Seattle in. Futty Danso with a powerful header to level the score at 1-1. That’s the Timbers’ eighth goal of a set piece this season.

64′: Qwest Field attendance: 36,593 (record for MLS match)

61′: Sal Zizzo comes in for Portland. Darlington Nagbe out.

56′: Perlaza nearly pulls one back for Portland with a teasing shot past Keller along the goal line, but Wahl clears it. Would’ve rolled wide anyways, it seemed.

Again, all credit to Montero for setting up that goal. That’s six games in a row he’s figured into a Seattle score.

52′: GOAL SEATTLE! Fredy Montero does extremely well to win a Roger Levesque pass in the air against two Timbers. He flicks it on to Alvaro Fernandez, who powers a left-footed shot by Troy Perkins to give Sounders FC a 1-0 lead.

47′: We were told Brad Evans has a right groin strain. He suffered a hamstring injury in preseason.

46′: We’re off in the second half. No more changes. Montero-Levesque-Jaqua nearly combine for a nice chance, but Brunner made a saving tackle. On the corner kick to the ball is flicked to Montero on the far post, but he hits the side netting again.

Halftime: Some stats: Shots–SEA 5-4. Shots on goal–POR 3-0. Fouls–4-4. Offsides–POR 1-0. Corner kicks–SEA 2-1. Saves–SEA 3-0.

Halftime. Lots of chances for both sides, but nothing to show for it yet. Should be a wild 45 minutes coming up.

45′: One minute of stoppage time. Before then Seattle with a dangerous free kick. Montero curls it into the side-netting, a lot of fans through it was in.

42′: Evans tried to play on, but the knock was too much. Roger Levesque subs on.

40′: Wahl with a solid corner kick, but it’s cleared by Danso. Lots of chances for both sides. Who is going to step up?

31′: Evans down. After a couple touches, Portland’s Hall knocks it out so the midfielder can be treated.

29′: Montero down but Fernandez plays on. Draws a foul (looked soft to me on Jeremy Hall) but it’s eventually cleared.

28′: Alonso tees up a volley from distance, but can’t get it on goal.

25′: Lots of physical play out there. The weather will make it sloppy, but it’ll still be entertaining.

21′: Another set piece for Portland. Some Timbers gets a head to it, hits it at Keller, but it’s another comfortable save.

19′: Early fisticuffs as Alonso takes down Chara after the whistle had blown. Jewsbury the first to confront the Cuban. Lots of others get in the mix. Portland’s bench incensed. Nothing comes of it. Play on.

18′: Cooper with another shot on goal, this one from distance, and Keller catches it cleanly.

17′: Here’s my Twitter picture from the north end.

13′: Cooper sneaks free for a chance, but it’s hit right at Keller.

11′: Timbers on the attack now. Jewsbury with a dangerous cross then Cooper is caught just offside on a low cross.

Also, here’s my Twitter picture from the south end display.

“Decades of Dominance.” Tributes to Jimmy Gabriel, Preston Burpo, Fredy Montero, Marcus Hahnemann, Brian Schmetzer, Roger Levesque.

7′: Alonso slow to get up after a Jewsbury tackle. He’s still limping a bit.

3′: Seattle on the attack early. Montero with a hopeful shot from distance that’s easily handled. Then Evans with a header off a Wahl cross goes wide.

2′: Gigantic tifo on the south end of the stadium. I’ll try to get a picture up ASAP. North end also with a display. Timbers Army too.

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: Portland in the Rose City red. Sounders with jackets on, should be in the traditional green-blue-green at home.

Pregame: Despite the sloppy conditions, the electricity is definitely building in here. Tonight should easily rival last year’s U.S. Open Cup for atmosphere. Portland is well represented.

Pregame: It is dumping rain out there. Very fitting.

Pregame: A couple notes to pass along. Friberg is out with a left lateral ankle sprain. Also, Osvaldo Alonso’s grandparents are at the game. They were allowed to leave Cuba because they’re over 65 years old.

Pregame: I just posted lineups below. Erik Friberg and Mauro Rosales are not in the squad due to injury. Some early banners:

From the Timbers Army: King of Cascadia

From section 112: Keller owns Spencer

From the north end: Sounders kick Portland’s axe
