Sounders learn CCL draw, face Panamanian club in prelims

ccl logo.jpgUPDATE 4:00 p.m. — San Francisco will host the first leg, Seattle will host the second. There had been some confusion and conflicting reports.

The draw for the CONCACAF Champions League was held Wednesday, where Sounders FC learned it’s play-in round opponent will be Panamanian club San Francisco. The first leg of the home-and-home series will be between July 26-28 in Panama and the second leg takes place August 2-4 at Qwest Field.

Should Seattle advance past the preliminary round it would meet a familiar foe in the group stage. Mexican club Monterrey — which was grouped with Sounders FC last year en route to the championship — leads Group D. Guatemalan club Comunicaciones is also in the group. The fourth team will either be Herediano of Costa Rica or it’s play-in round opponent, which will be the Caribbean club championship third-place finisher.
