FINAL: Sounders FC 2, Real Salt Lake 1, game thread

Couple postgame notes and quotes on my Twitter feed.

* * *

FINAL. Sounders FC 2, Real Salt Lake 1. Huge win for Seattle.

90+3′: Scramble in front of the goal but Keller has it. Flag’s up too.

90′: Three minutes of added time. Big free kick for RSL coming up. It’s launched over everyone. Rio Tinto groans.

88′: GOAL RSL. Nelson Gonzalez cuts it to 2-1.

84: GOAL SEATTLE! Lamar Neagle from distance makes it 2-0.

80′: Montero with a shot that forces a big save from Rimando. Levesque on for Friberg.

79′: Jaqua blocks a dangerous looking shot from Borchers. Then somehow Keller comes up with another impossible save on Johnson!

76′: RSL sub: Gonzalez in for Russell. Seattle up a man and needs to hold on.

71′: GOAL SEATTLE! Patrick Ianni pokes in the goal after Jaqua’s won the corner kick and it took a deflection off Montero.

69′: Montero in for Fucito. Dangerous cross by Fredy in his first action but it’s cleared by Russell, who has taken Olave’s spot at center back.

Alonso fires a shot at Rimando, gives him trouble, but it’s out for a corner kick.

65′: Ref rightly plays advantage after Evans is taken out by Wingert (who’s later booked). RSL then refuses to kick the ball out when Evans stays down and things get testy. Riley and Alonso get in Johnson’s face, who could’ve kicked it out.

62′: Fucito whistles a shot wide. RSL sub, Wingert in for Alexandre. Defender for a forward.

60′: Sounders up a man. Can they take advantage?

58′: Jamison Olave sent off for dragging down Fucito, who was going to be clear on goal in the 58th minute. Free kick coming from about 19 yards. Alonso’s shot is blocked and his rebound chance is off target.

56′: Borchers wins the header on a corner kick, but it’s blocked. Then his follow-up shot is off target.

54′: Deflected shot by Fucito is out for a corner kick. It’s cleared by Olave.

51′: SAVE KELLER! Tips an Olave header off the crossbar after coming off his line!

50′: RSL keeping the pressure on. Seattle throwing bodies around to keep it tied. Survived a couple corner kick scares.

48′: SAVE KELLER! Huge stop on Espindola’s blast front the top of the box. Seemed destined to go in.

48′: Belated halftime stats. Shots: SEA 5-4. Shots on goal: 2-2. Fouls: SEA 10-5. Corner kicks: RSL 3-2. Offsides: SEA 2-0. Saves: 2-2.

46′: And we’re underway in the second half. No changes for either team.

Halftime. Sounders FC 0, Real Salt Lake 0. Very good half from the visitors. Close to even, and that’s without Fredy Montero out there.

45′: One minute of added time.

43′: Slight delay as Keller has a streamer thrown his way.

41′: Now Neagle takes down Olave after the big man shielded a ball out for a goal kick.

40′: Good buildup and possession from Seattle. Lots of players involved. Ends with Jaqua heading a Riley cross wide.

37′: Sounds like Flaco was trying to play through an injury he picked up in pregame. Not surprised he tried to play through it after Schmid all but told him to man up after going to ground too easy Wednesday. Coach not pleased to burn a sub though.

34′: Espindola getting a lot of 1v1 chances against Wahl. Earns a corner kick after a blocked cross. Olave header goes wide.

33′: Driving wind and rain here now. Nothing Seattle isn’t used to by now.

30′: Neagle gets a clean look, whistles a shot, but it’s too close to Rimando.

28′: Jaqua tripped. Yellow card issued to either Johnson or Beltran. On the free kick, Jaqua lobs a header, it hits the crossbar, but he’s whistled offside.

INJURY UPDATE: Fernandez strained his right hamstring.

27′: Sets up a corner kick that’s dangerous, but RSL commits a foul

25′: Free kick for RSL. Williams take it, cleared by Jaqua. Johnson’s follow-up shot is blocked. Later Parke wins a crucial header on an Espindola cross.

22′: Neagle with a cross to Fucito, but Borchers wins it. Then some nice combo play earns a corner kick after Friberg’s cross is blocked. Wahl takes it, but it’s over everyone and eventually cleared.

19′: Alexandre takes it from Friberg. Fires a low driven shot but Keller has it. Moments later Johnson takes a long shot, right at Keller again.

18′: I couldn’t see what happened. No clear views of a TV up here. Can anyone help? Trainer already calling for the sub. It’ll be Lamar Neagle.

16′: Great run by Espindola past Wahl. Riley clears out the danger.

Now Fernandez is down.

15′: RSL shot takes a wicked deflection off Alexandre. Rolls wide though.

12′: Fucito barges into Olave after the Colombian beats him to a ball. Pretty blatant. The little guy isn’t backing down.

10′: Fucito gets behind the defense. Earns a corner kick with a low driven cross. Wahl takes it and Parke’s header is cleared out just in front of the goal! Beckerman heads it out. Great chance there.

8′: Ozzie earns a free kick, it’s taken by Wahl and Jaqua wins the header. Pushes it wide though.

6′: Alvaro shanks a cross from the left. Both with a two-forward lineup and the advanced positioning, the Sounders are clearly coming here to score.

4′: Fucito with a good ball fake, appears to be called for a handball though.

3′: Jaqua called offside after a good long ball from Wahl. Clatters into Rimando pretty hard as he plays through. Lotta boos here.

1′: And we’re underway! Evans on the right. Friberg in the middle. Alvaro on the left.

Pregame: Seattle in the green-green-blue road combo. RSL in red (cobalt?).

Pregame: Getting a bit chilly in this open-air press box. The grass turf is a little patchy in spots here, but it’s tough to complain about surfaces when you’re used to Qwest Field.

Pregame: Big news so far? Fredy Montero dropped to the bench. Not a huge surprise considering coach Sigi Schmid’s postgame comments Wednesday night. What do you think of the move?
