Kitsap Pumas’ schedule next week even crazier than Seattle’s

kitsap pumas.jpgAs mentioned in the post below, Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid isn’t entirely pleased with having one day’s rest before a U.S. Open Cup third-round match Tuesday against Kitsap.

But the schedule looks even crazier from the other side.

As of right now, the Pumas are slated to have a league game Wednesday — the very next day — against the North Sound SeaWolves FC. Then they’d play Saturday against the Tacoma Tide and the following Tuesday in Abbotsford. Yes, that would mean games on June 28, June 29, July 2 and July 5. Four games in eight days!

Kitsap executive director Ben Pecora said his team is trying to change the date of Wednesday’s league game to alleviate the work load. A petition to the league has already been field. North Sound can agree to the change or the league might mandate one.

Along the same line, the Sounders hoped to change the date of Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match, but according to a U.S. Soccer spokesman, that request was declined by the Pumas. Pecora said Kitsap never received a formal request and, either way, Wednesday’s league game made a change practically impossible.

Dates for the U.S. Open Cup rounds are determined before league schedules are released, the USSF spokesman said. As such, those participating leagues have their own policies as to how they schedule around USOC fixtures.

Looks like it was going to be a mess either way.
