Levesque’s celebration duo: pirate face and the scuba dive

Several ESPN programs have shown Roger Levesque‘s “scuba dive” goal celebration from last night. After his first goal he also threw in the pirate face (pictured above), as made famous in his video for the “Date a Sounder” ad campaign.

Reporters talked to Levesque about the celebrations a little more after practice Friday. Here’s the transcript of the entertaining chat, plus a poll at the end:

* * *

(Did you see yourself on SportsCenter?) “Uh huh. I did see it. Pretty funny with just the feet in the air. It made the Not Top 10.”

(I think that was more for Greg Sutton…) “Oh. I was confused for a second [Ed note: he said that with a wink and a smile].”

(How long have you been rehearsing that and who came up with the idea?) “Myself and Mike Fucito and a young guy named Evan Brown, who was on the team a few years back, had talked about it for a long time. I finally got a chance to put it in action.”

(Is this going to be like Chad Ochocinco? A different celebration for each goal?) “No. Absolutely not. I don’t score that many goals. It’s something I just came up with at the time, but usually I just stand there and look confused.”

(Was there a pirate face on the first goal?) “There was, in the midst of all the chaos. I mixed it in. I wasn’t lying about that. I’m sure there’s a picture out there somewhere. Unfortunately, for everybody’s sake.”

(You went up on the sideboards in D.C. last year, did you think about it then?) “I think we had talked about it at that point. At the end of that game — it was late — I was too tired to do anything but sit down. It was a comfortable seat on the sideboards, and that was the mindset there. But I had a little more energy last night to actually go through last night with the full scuba dive.”

Now to the poll, referencing also this famous celebration after a 2009 U.S. Open Cup game in Portland…
