Rosales “really, really sad” with relegation of River Plate

river plate.jpgThe news came over the wire Sunday afternoon.

After 110 years, storied Argentine club River Plate has been relegated to the second division for the first time. The drop was sealed after a 1-1 draw in the second leg of a demotion playoff with Belgrano, which had won the first leg 2-0.

The news was especially hard for Sounders FC’s Mauro Rosales, who played four years for the historic side. I asked him about it after Sunday’s win against New England.

“I just heard at the end of the game and I’m really, really sad,” he said. “I can’t complete my happiness with this game because it’s a very bad feeling. I’m very sorry for the players and the fans. I can’t say anything. I hope they can come up again as soon as possible. It’s very frustrating.”
