Four wins in five allows Schellas Hyndman’s team to leapfrog L.A. into the top spot.

Surging up the standings with an eight-game league unbeaten streak (10 in all competitions).

7. (7) New York Red Bulls 5-3-10

Expected return of sparkplug forward Luke Rodgers could inject some needed energy.

Huge gate at Stanford Stadium (A: 41,028) was ruined by allowing a late New York goal.

9. (6) Columbus Crew 6-5-6

The returns of Robbie Rogers and Danny O’Rourke were welcome sight over the weekend.

10. (10) D.C. United 4-5-7

Late-game defense a sore spot: Eight goals allowed in final 15 minutes a league worst.

11. (11) Colorado Rapids 5-5-8

Facing lowly Whitecaps could bring an end to a surprising six-game home winless streak.

12. (12) Chivas USA 4-7-6

Defense earned three shutouts in first seven games. Has just one in 10 matches since.

13. (13) Houston Dynamo 4-6-8

Had a great week beating Vancouver for the NCC championship and also in a league game.

16. (14) Portland Timbers FC 5-8-3

Jeld-Wen Field a fortress no longer. Winless streak at six, including three losses at home.

17. (17) New England Revolution 3-8-7

Accounted for almost 19 percent of its goals this season in 3-3 tie against RSL on Monday.

Defense has just one shutout in nine games. No team has lost more on the road (0-7-3).
