Keller will be flown out to MLS All-Star Game by the league

keller mug.jpgIn a radio interview with 950 KJR-AM on Tuesday, Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller expressed some frustration that he was left off the 22-man game-day roster for the MLS All-Star Game, as selected by all-star coach Hans Backe.

Keller, who was named to the MLS All-Star First XI, told KJR he had planned to attend the July 27 game even through it fell one day after Seattle’s CONCACAF Champions League game in Panama. Despite getting permission from the Sounders to attend, Keller figured that chance was taken away upon realizing he was listed as an “inactive” all-star.

I have just heard from an MLS spokesman that Keller will be flown out to the game by the league and will be available as a third goalkeeper.

The spokesman said the league considered a number of factors before confirming the news today, including the fact that Keller had received permission from the Sounders to leave the morning after the CCL game, that he was a First XI selection by the fans and that he can provide cover at goalkeeper for the MLS all-stars (remember 2009? when Keller had to come back into the game after being subbed out?).

What do you think of the development?
