Here are some highlights from Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid this week:
* * *
— Jhon Kennedy Hurtado trained with the reserves today and said he felt very good. That’s positive news and seemingly puts him on track to come back in the next week or so. O’Brian White is in full training and just trying to get that final sharpness before coming back into a competitive game.
— Terry Boss‘ recovery from a concussion will be day by day. He was in street clothes Monday but did a little work today. Schmid said it could be 3-6 more days for him.
— Defense has obviously been the main concern recently. The team’s allowed eight goals in the last three MLS games. “Sometimes it’s been an individual breakdown,” said Schmid. “Sometimes it’s an organizational breakdown. Sometimes it’s just a lack of being tough enough, winning the duels, reacting at the appropriate time.”
— Don’t expect turf to be an advantage Wednesday. Schmid said San Francisco FC’s regular home field is turf even though they played on grass in the first leg of the CCL preliminary round match-up.
— It sounds like Schmid sees Amadou Sanyang, the team’s newest signing, more as a defensive midfielder. Sanyang, who will wear the No. 30 jersey, just turned 20 years old and should be expected to boost the depth’s team at midfield and defense. Schmid praised his ball-winning, size and ability in the air.
