Here are some notes from Monday’s practice…
* * *
— I asked coach Sigi Schmid today if there was an update on O’Brian White‘s status. The forward recently suffered a setback in his recovery from leg surgery in April, which had removed a potentially dangerous blood clot.
“That’s something that’s being worked on right now and discussed,” Schmid said. “Right now there are different options and they’re trying to determine which one is the best option as to how to proceed.”
— Pat Noonan was excused from practice today. His wife is due to give birth any moment now. Both sets of parents are in town, Schmid said.
— For those active in social media, you might have noticed Philadelphia Union coach Peter Nowak joined Twitter today.
“Peter probably likes to hear himself talk more,” joked Schmid, who got a good laugh out of the news. Seattle’s coach said he wasn’t likely going to join Twitter soon, but he has considered it just to see what others were saying.
“I can’t believe people are interesting in what I’m going to be doing or what I’ve done or where I’m at or things like that,” Schmid said. “I don’t know. I won’t become a Twittor or a Twittee at this moment.”
I suggested assistant coach Brian Schmetzer might be a good addition to the Twitter community and Schmid thought of someone else.
“Tommy Dutra would be a good Twitter guy I think,” said Schmid of the team’s goalkeeper coach. “He would throw some things out there that would get you scratching your head.”
