CCL roundup: MLS perfect, Dallas gets historic win in Mexico

— Before Wednesday, MLS teams were 0-21-3 playing in Mexico. FC Dallas broke that winless streak last night with a historic 1-0 win against Pumas, which fielded a lot of youngsters. Marvin Chavez scored the lone goal for the visitors, knocking in a rebound after a shot by Jair Benitez hit the post.

“At the end of the day I think it’s good for U.S. soccer,” said Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid. “I think it’s probably a little insulting for the teams in Mexico to feel they can field an under-20 team and beat a pro team from up here. So I think it’s good Dallas went down there and made that statement that you got to come back with something better if you want to beat us.”

As you surely remember, Seattle nearly ended the streak last year. The Sounders led in Monterrey by two goals last year, but eventually fell 3-2.

— The L.A. Galaxy beat Montagua 2-0, with Adam Cristman and Landon Donovan scoring.

— Colorado took down a familiar foe in Isidro Metapan (the Sounders’ preliminary-round opponent last year) 3-2 behind two goals from Mac Kandji and another by Andre Akpan.

— Toronto FC is the last MLS team up and faces Panama’s FC Tauro on the road at 5 p.m. Thursday night.
