The Sounders will be happy not to face FC Dallas center back George John this weekend. The Shoreline native is suspended after receiving a red card last week against Philadelphia.
In fact, MLS teams might not have to worry about John much longer. FOX Sports was the first to report that Blackburn of the English Premier League has submit a bid for the former UW Husky.
John was drafted out of Washington with the 14th pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Since then he has emerged into one of the league’s best, even garnering interest from the U.S. and Greek national teams (he has dual citizenship).
With size (6-foot-3), speed and skill, it’s hard to believe John is only making $42,000 in base salary. Though since he is under contract, FC Dallas would stand to gain some allocation money through a transfer fee if a deal ultimately is made.
John shared his thoughts with reporters in Dallas on Friday and appeared to be excited about the prospects. Who could blame him?
What do you think about the local product perhaps being on his way to the EPL?
