Sounders FC goalkeeper Terry Boss has been called in by the Puerto Rican national team.

The 29-year-old will miss Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal against FC Dallas to play in a pair of World Cup qualifiers (Sept. 2 in St. Kitts and Nevis, and Sept. 6 vs. Canada).

Boss played for Puerto Rico in last year’s Caribbean Championship and has six caps. He’ll return to Seattle immediately after the second match.

This season Boss has made four starts in all competitions, earning four wins. Most recently he’s played in CONCACAF Champions League wins against Monterrey of Mexico and Comunicaciones of Guatemala. He’s also played well in the Reserve League.

Coach Sigi Schmid said Thursday that Boss has rebounded well since the Manchester United friendly in the last few weeks.

“I think with Terry what we wanted to do is let him know that he we’re still confident in him,” Schmid said, “so we put him in some decent and some big games. He played the (Open Cup) match against L.A. Playing a game in Monterrey is a big game as well and he’s come through and played well for us in those situations. It’s a tribute to Terry. For him to be able to stay with it (is) a sign of a good athlete. The ability to refocus is very vital.”
