Zakuani reaches out to D.C.’s Chris Pontius after broken leg

I was passed along an interesting story today from the D.C. United team website. In a Q&A with Chris Pontius, who had his leg broken against Chivas USA over the weekend, the midfielder said Sounders FC’s Steve Zakuani reached out to him to offer support.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Steve [Zakuani] and the things he’s gone through, and for how positive he’s been throughout his whole experience,” Pontius told Alex Caulfield of the D.C. communications department. “I had a conversation with him earlier this week, and he told me to keep my head up. That’s what I’m doing, I’m going to focus on the positives. I wish I was attending the game in Seattle, because I always enjoy going up there, even if I wasn’t playing in the game. Steve is a tremendous person and I’m thankful for him reaching out to me like that.”
