Sounders FC clinches the West’s No. 2 seed due to RSL tie

playoff update.jpgReal Salt Lake played to a 0-0 tie Friday in Colorado. The result clinched Sounders FC the second-best record in MLS and the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed into the playoffs.

Seattle will have home-field advantage in the conference semifinals, going on the road to start the two-leg series on Oct. 29-30 and playing at home Nov. 2-3.

While there’s nothing tangible to be won or lost in the final two regular-season games, don’t expect the Sounders to slow down. After Friday’s practice, coach Sigi Schmid stressed the importance of the team maintaining its rhythm.

“You want your team to be sharp going into the playoffs,” said Schmid. “You want them to be confident; you want them to be playing well. So from that standpoint it’s important that we continue to do the things we’ve been doing and continue to play well. That’s what the last couple weeks are about.”

Seattle’s playoff opponent will either be RSL or FC Dallas. As seen above, coach Jason Kreis‘ side has the lead in the standings — albeit having played one extra game — and also holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Any thoughts on the developments?
