Schmid on O’Brian White: “He’s doing better, coming along.”

I got a request for an O’Brian White update this morning so I made sure to ask coach Sigi Schmid about the injured forward after today’s practice. White has been out since undergoing a second surgery to remove a blood clot in his leg in August. Here’s Schmid:

* * *

He’s doing better, coming along. He’s running on the AlterG (anti-gravity) treadmill and so forth, so I know they’re constantly bringing that up. I think he’s running right now at about 80- to 90 percent of his body weight. He’s very close to being able to run on just his own body weight.

It’s a pretty extensive surgery when you’re transplanting a vein and things like that, so you have to give him time to recover. Once that initial phase gets over it’s again one of those things where once he gets to a certain point, then it’ll go very quickly after that point. Right now he’s in that period of time where that 20 percent of progress is going to take 90 percent of the time. Then that last 80 percent is going to go in probably 10 percent of the time.
