Sounders to play Galaxy or Mexican team in CCL quarters

ccl logo.jpgThe Los Angeles Galaxy went on the road and beat Motagua, 1-0, in its final CONCACAF Champions League group game Thursday night.

The group stage is now over. Here’s how things finished:

Winners: L.A. Galaxy (Group A), Santos Laguna (Group B), UNAM Pumas (Group C), Monterrey (Group D).

Runners up: Morelia (Group A), Metapan (Group B), Toronto FC (Group C), Sounders FC (Group D).

I haven’t seen when the draw is going to be held, but Seattle could face the Galaxy the quarterfinals. The other two potential opponents are Mexican sides Santos Laguna and UNAM Pumas. The Sounders can’t play Monterrey when the next round starts in March because they were in the same group.

“They’re all good teams,” said coach Sigi Schmid of the potential opponents. “When you get to the final eight, everybody’s a good team. Whether it’s Pumas or Santos Laguna or the Galaxy, they’re all going to be tough games. But if you want to win a championship you’ve got to beat somebody along the way. Nobody’s going to hand it to you. Whoever it is, we’ll get ready for them when that time comes.”

Here’s where you can see why winning the group would’ve been beneficial.

What do you make of the possibilities? Which team would like to face in the quarterfinals?
