Here’s a tweet from ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle, who among all his other MLS work is covering both legs of the Western Conference semifinal between Sounders FC and Real Salt Lake. As you can tell, he’s reporting that RSL center backs Jamison Olave and Nat Borchers will travel to Seattle for the second leg of the series and will be game-time decisions as to whether they can play.
Olave and Borchers could be considered the best center-back duo in the league. For a team trying to protect a lead, this is certainly a storyline to keep an eye.
Sounds like Borchers’ injury has been updated and is now diagnosed as a quad injury (it was originally announced as a knee strain). Perhaps he’s dealing with both, as was intimated in this tweet by Brian Straus of the Sporting News, which confirmed Carlisle’ earlier tweet from late last night.
According to a story on MLSsoccer.com: “When Borchers and Olave both start, RSL are 9-4-8; when one or both are missing, they’re 6-7-0.”
What do you make of the news? Are you more confident in a Sounders comeback with RSL stars defenders questionable for the game?
