POLL: What grade do you give Sounders FC’s 2011 season?

No MLS team has ever won as many games in a season as Sounders FC did in 2011.

Seattle earned the year’s 27th victory Wednesday night (albeit one that ended in playoff elimination) to set a new record for wins when weighing the regular season, postseason, U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League. The Sounders had previously been tied with the 2000 Chicago Fire for the most at 26; they could ultimately finish second still as this year’s Los Angeles Galaxy has 25 wins with potentially three more games to play.

Either way, it’s been an impressive campaign for Seattle — but that doesn’t hide what was an extremely disappointing finish. Players and coaches had put a lot of emphasis this season on performing better in the playoffs than it had in previous years, and that didn’t happen.

Another season. Another first-round playoff exit.

But there’s certainly more to consider. There was another U.S. Open Cup title (that’s three in a row). There was a top-two finish in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage to clinch a quarterfinal berth (not bad). There were also franchise records in MLS wins, goals, goal differential and dozens of other categories I’m sure (also cool).

So what do you think? How much does another playoff letdown affect your view of this season?
