“Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story” playing in town Thurs.

I’m sure there’s a lot of disappointment out there on this day after the Sounders FC season ended. I wanted to pass along something, however, that you might be interested in.

“Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story” will be screening tonight at 7 p.m. at AMC Pacific Place (600 Pine Street – Ste 400, Seattle, Wash.).

The film is a documentary on U.S. national team defender and Vancouver Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit and his remarkably journey from a pub league in England to the Premier League and beyond. I wrote a story that touched on it earlier this year.

Here’s the lead I wrote, not knowing a film was in the works:

The story of Jay DeMerit’s road to stardom reads like a Hollywood screenplay.

DeMerit is expected to be on hand for a post-movie Q&A, which could be fun. If you follow him on Twitter, you know he’s an entertaining character.
