Keller, Rosales, Schmid named finalists for MLS awards

MLS announced finalists for its postseason awards Monday afternoon. Three Sounders were in the top-three in their respective categories: Kasey Keller (Goalkeeper of the Year), Mauro Rosales (Newcomer of the Year) and Sigi Schmid (Coach of the Year).

Keller has been a finalist all three seasons he’s been in Seattle. After the regular season, he finished first in wins (18), third in saves (110), tied for third in shutouts (nine) and fifth in goals-against average (1.09). Rosales signed in March with finished with 13 assists (a new franchise record for a season and good for third in the league) and five goals.

Schmid, a finalist for the second time with the Sounders, is seeking his third Coach of the Year award. The exploits of his team through several competitions has been well chronicled.
