UPDATE 11:02 a.m. — OK, now it’s official.

No news release yet, just a tweet from the CONCACAF Champions League account.

Sounders FC will face Mexican club Santos Laguna in the quarterfinals. The first leg of the two-game series will be in Seattle on March 6-8 and the return leg will be March 13-15 at Estadio Corona in Torreon.

Santos Laguna won Group B with a 4-1-1 record, beating the Colorado Rapids of MLS, Isidro Metapan from El Salvador and Real Espana from Honduras.

“At this stage of the competition it’s never going to be an easy draw,” said coach Sigi Schmid in a news release. “Santos will be a difficult opponent, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

If the Sounders advance they’ll play the L.A. Galaxy/Toronto FC winner in the semifinals. Seattle would be on the road in the first semifinal leg on March 27-29 and at home for the second leg April 3-5.

From the release: “The first leg of the final will be hosted in either Mexico or El Salvador April 17-19. The second leg will be either in the USA, Mexico or Canada April 24-26.”
