The Kick Off at MLSsoccer.com linked to a recent interview with Michael Gspurning, a Austrian goalkeeper that Sounders GM Adrian Hanauer admitted to having interest in back in October.
It sounds like Gspurning is still in negotiations with the Sounders, but nothing has been signed. It also appears the 30-year-old was in town for a CONCACAF Champions League, perhaps the second leg of the preliminary round matchup with Panama’s San Francisco FC in August. Sounds like he enjoyed his time in Seattle and had good things to say about the Sounders’ style of play.
Anyways, check it out for yourself. It’s certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
Lastly, here’s what Hanauer said on Oct. 16 about the team’s interest in Gspurning:
“We know Michael well. He was here during the summer. Big, very accomplished goalkeeper playing in Greece. He’s an Austrian. We certainly don’t have anything to announce. We have no contract, but he is a player that we like. We’ve made no secret that we are certainly looking to potentially sign a goalkeeper for next season, although we’re also very confident in our young players here. If we get something done and dusted, we’ll certainly let everyone know.”
