Here’s the first of the six messages (the rest is after the jump) that former Sounders FC defender James Riley posted Wednesday evening on Twitter after what was surely a chaotic day. The 29-year-old was selected by the Montreal Impact in the expansion draft and subsequently traded to Chivas USA.
The man who was Seattle’s starting right back since the franchise’s inception has handled the news about as well as could be expected. Over the course of three seasons here, Riley has certainly become a fan favorite and even has his own specific chant — pretty catchy.
In response to the loss, former teammates Steve Zakuani, Mike Seamon and Mauro Rosales offered their support on Twitter:
Zakuani: “Really sad to see a great teammate & friend leave Seattle.. @JamesRiley7 is a great guy w/ a big heart… wish u the best in California!”
Seamon: “@JamesRiley7 great role model.. Definitely going to miss you”
Rosales: “All the best to my bro @JamesRiley7 im going to miss you and also to tysonW Sad that they have to leave Ss great players and Very good guys”
