Miguel Montano, it appears, will play for Montreal in 2012

montano mug.jpgI am not Facebook friends with Miguel Montano.

A few Sounders FC fans, it seems, are.

So when Montano allegedly posted on the social-networking site that he will play for the Montreal Impact in 2012, I didn’t see it. Some people did, however. Here’s one and here’s another.

Word is he wrote: my new team is montreal impact in 2012 …. mi nuevo equipo es montreal impact en el 2012

Another person posted a picture of Montano’s apparent status update on Twitter, which you can see for yourself.

No announcement has been made, but Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid said the young Colombian’s status was up in the air for next year in an end-of-the-season interview earlier this month.

I must admit, I’d be lying if I said I fully understood Montano’s contract situation. He arrived to Seattle last March on loan from Argentine club Quilmes, but never saw much first-team action here. In August, the Sounders loaned him to Montreal, then an NASL team. Sounds like the move worked out well enough for the Impact to pursue a future with the 20-year-old midfielder.

Now whether the Sounders will receive compensation of any kind (trade?) or whether his loan in Seattle ended and another deal was worked out with Montreal, I’m not sure. Either way, Montano’s days as a Sounder appear to be over.

What to do make of what looks to be another departure?
