Hanauer on Burch talks: Both sides confident in agreement

burch mug.jpgOne of the issues still outstanding this Sounders FC offseason is the signing of defender Marc Burch. The 27-year-old, formerly of D.C. United, was acquired by Seattle in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Process earlier this month, but must still agree to terms with the team.

The Sounders, who were required to make an offer to Burch by Monday, would hold the right of first refusal if a deal isn’t reached through negotiations, but it doesn’t sound like that will be the case.

According to general manager Adrian Hanauer, both sides are confident in coming to an agreement. That stance remains consistent with what he told season-ticket holders in a business meeting last week.

The 6-foot-1 Burch made $95,000 last year in salary ($97,500 in guaranteed compensation), but that number will almost certainly have to come down if he signs. He could contend for the starting job at left back next season.

Seattle traded a third-round pick in 2014 to Vancouver in order to move up in the re-entry draft to acquire the six-year veteran.
