Klinsmann calls in 20 for USMNT’s January camp

us logo small.jpgU.S. men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called in 20 players for a January training camp in preparation for friendlies against Venezuela (Jan. 21) and Panama (Jan. 25). The roster consists mostly of MLS players — 18 of the 20 — as other regulars are currently in season with their European teams. The coach explained some of his reasoning here.

Among the notable inclusions is George John, a Shoreline native who’s been in town for his jersey retirement at Shorewood High School. The 24-year-old has had options open with the Greek national team, as well. Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez and Graham Zusi are other interesting participants, as many fans have believed that they’ve deserved a call up.

Here’s the full list:

Goalkeepers (3): Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders (7): Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), A.J. DeLaGarza (LA Galaxy), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), George John (FC Dallas), Zach Loyd (FC Dallas), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaelland), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA)

Midfielders (6): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), Benny Feilhaber (New England Revolution), Jeff Larentowicz (Colorado Rapids), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Forwards (4): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Teal Bunbury (Sporting Kansas City), C.J. Sapong (Sporting Kansas City), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

What do you think of the list? Excited to see a couple new guys get a chance?
