A lot of attention from the American soccer community was paid to Everton’s EPL match Wednesday against Bolton. Initially the focus was on on-loan midfielder Landon Donovan making the start in his first appearance for the Toffees.
The story changed in the 63rd minute, however, when goalkeeper Tim Howard broke a scoreless tie with a memorable goal on a wind-aided boot down the field that bounced over his Bolton counterpart, Adam Bogdan. Howard, in his 250th club game in England, became the fourth EPL goalkeeper in Premier League history to score.
Everton couldn’t hold the lead, though, and lost 2-1.
After the game, Howard said he didn’t celebrate as a sign of respect for Bogdan. The other three EPL goalkeepers to score in games are Peter Schmeichel, Paul Robinson and fellow American Brad Friedel.
What do you think? A goal-of-the-year candidate or a bit of luck?
