Michelle French hired as coach of Sounders Women and other links

Sounders_Women_logo_med.jpgThe Sounders Women have announced the hiring of a new coach, signing Kent native Michelle French to a two-year deal.

The local product was a two-time Parade All-American at Kennedy High School in Burien. Then, at the University of Portland, she was an All-American in 1998 under coach Clive Charles and won a silver medal with the 2000 U.S. Olympic team.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone involved in the Seattle Sounders Women’s organization to continue the tradition of building a team of talented and driven athletes who not only love the game, but also take to heart the role they will play in our soccer community here in the Northwest,” said French, a former Sounder, in a news release.

Here’s a story our columnist Steve Kelley wrote on French a couple years ago, detailing her remarkable recovery from non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
