As has been expected for a couple weeks now, Sounders FC has acquired 23-year-old Danish midfielder Christian Sivebaek on a transfer from FC Midtjylland. The signing will be made final upon the receipt of his P-1 visa and international clearance.
Per MLS and team policy, terms were not disclosed. The 6-foot-3 Sivebaek was believed to be under contract with Midtjylland, according to reports in Denmark, which also indicated a transfer fee would be minimal.
Sivebaek, who has youth national team experience with Denmark, has played for 80 games for Midtjylland since 2006, both as a midfielder and right back. It appears he’ll likely be an outside midfielder for Seattle.
“Christian is a player that we have been following for quite some time,” said technical director Chris Henderson in a news release. “He is a good one versus one dribbler who can provide consistent quality service to our strikers. He has good speed and physical presence.”
Added Sivebaek in the release: “This is an exciting opportunity for me, to be joining such a club as Sounders FC. I am looking forward to playing in MLS and for one of the best and biggest teams in America. I am very impressed by the professionalism of the club, the high quality of players and staff, and the great number and passion of their fans.”
