With the start of Sounders FC’s preseason postponed until Friday due to the snow and ice, a potentially busy day has turned into a lazy one. Here are some links to hold you over (the picture was taken from just outside my place in West Seattle):
* * *
— The big news of the day is David Beckham‘s new two-year deal with the Galaxy. His L.A. return (is it a return if he didn’t go anywhere?) became official Wednesday and you can watch the 2 p.m. press conference.
— A couple local products were selected in Tuesday’s supplemental draft that I missed before. St. Mary’s goalkeeper Doug Herrick is a Seattle native that went to O’Dea High School. He’s off to Portland. Brandon Zimmerman of Pasco was picked by Philadelphia.
— Here’s a lengthy Q&A with coach Sigi Schmid on SoundersFC.com.
— Former Sounder Sebastien Le Toux is off to train with Bolton of the English Premier League, the same team that’s trying to sign New York’s Tim Ream.
— Here’s another profile on Jeff Parke, centered on his U.S. national team call-up.
— This ESPN story lists Federal Way’s Kelyn Rowe as one of the top U.S. players to watch under the age of 21.
— GoalWA.net had a couple interesting stories the other day. First a Q&A with Sounders Women GM Amy Carnell and another piece saying the Tacoma Tide’s yellow tradition should be honored if a potential partnership with the Sounders is finalized.
— Here’s the latest from Sounder at Heart‘s Nos Audietis podcast, with GM Adrian Hanauer as a guest.
— Did you know some Sounders fans have a website displaying their desire for a natural grass surface at CenturyLink Field?
— There was a fatal shooting outside the U.S. women’s national team hotel in Vancouver the other day. No one from the team was affected.
— Once the season gets going, you’ll likely hear the Sounders and myself talk about regeneration sessions at practice. Here’s a post from U.S. Soccer on why they’re so important.
