Tuesday training at Starfire — photo reel

The main part of Tuesday’s training was a full-field 11v11 scrimmage, the first of preseason. The teams consisted mostly of youngsters and trialists with a few veterans in on defense. Most of the experienced forwards and midfielders trained to the side.

The game consisted of two 20-minute halves finished a 1-1 draw. Draft pick Andy Rose scored an impressive first goal, rising high and powerfully heading in a corner kick from Jason Banton. Invitee Alex Caskey, drafted in 2011, beautifully curled in the equalizer to the upper-90. Both goals were quite stunning.

Here were the lineups:

Team Orange: GK Gspurning (Meredith 20), RB Scott, CB Duran, CB Hurtado, LB Burch, RM Cato, CM Rose, CM Sanyang, RM Banton, F Aman, F Sodade

Team Gray: GK Weber (Lacey 20), RB Estrada, CB Pontius, CB Ianni, LB Gonzalez, RM Caskey, CM Vanzie, CM Prieto, LM Tetteh, F Jones, F Trialist (unidentified)

Roger Levesque came on at halftime to play right back for David Estrada, who pushed up to right mid. I didn’t catch the rest of the switch, but according to SoundersFC.com it sounds like Michael Tetteh came off and Alex Caskey slid over to left mid.

Afterward, coach Sigi Schmid said Andrew Duran acquitted himself well. Anyways, here are the pictures:

Here’s the group after the scrimmage. The cold temps and heavy breathing made for an interesting shot.

The glacier on another field at Starfire was receding…

Here’s a look at the 11v11 action. It was fun to watch with local soccer treasures Alan Hinton and Jimmy Gabriel.

It’s always interesting when there’s activity on the railroad tracks behind the field.

Kasey Keller, who spoke with reporters afterward, chats it up with goalkeepers, from left, Bryan Meredith, Josh Ford and Tyrel Lacey.

Not involved in the scrimmage, but a part of the group that trained to the side, were Christian Sivebaek, Sammy Ochoa and Servando Carrasco.

Steve Zakuani wasn’t involved in the scrimmage and trained to the side with the other group. Note the new training tops with the numbers in the middle.
