Here are some quotes from Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid as provided by the team following Monday’s 1-1 tie in a training game against Orlando City SC. The team website has a video report with more reaction. Box score after the jump:

(On the positives from today’s training game…) “The positives again were I thought we played well and I thought we created chances. A little unfortunate with Ozzie [Osvaldo Alonso] hitting the crossbar. They had a defender clear one off the line. I thought we had some other good opportunities. A good goal that we got from Sammy Ochoa but Sammy had [another] header as well. [David] Estrada just missed on a header in the box. We had a couple of other near misses. From the whole 90 minutes I thought we were the better team. We dominated the majority of the play. We kept the pressure on them but obviously our finishing has got to get a little bit better.”
(On the first group…) “They do a good job of the possession and so forth but sometimes when we go forward with numbers we have got to make sure we don’t get countered on. We got caught a little bit with a bad square pass, just as we did against Vancouver and then the counter came and that’s something that we have to eliminate. And we also have to be a little more able to take advantage of the high line that opponents are playing against us and that means the timing of the runs to get in behind-today we had good success on the right side with [Mauro] Rosales and [Adam] Johansson, getting in behind them on the right hand side. We didn’t have that same success on the left nor were we able to get Mike Fucito behind the defense either.”
(On the second group…) “Second group I think was more effective because they did a better job of getting behind the defense. I think a lot of that is a tribute to David Estrada and the runs that he made really stretched the defense for us against them. And again, it was the first real good look for [Christian] Sivebaek in a game. I thought he did a great job, set-up the goal for us, as well. But he did a really good job getting behind them again on our right hand side. He’s big, he’s powerful, he’s fast and he showed a lot of those qualities today.”
(On the next training game against Columbus Crew…) “We need to do a better job of taking advantage of what the opponent gives us. If they play a high line we’ve got to be able to get behind them and once we show that we can get behind them they are going to drop off and I know we have the ability to play to feet and go at them a little bit. And we got to make sure we don’t get caught on counters, that’s an important part for us. So we got to continue to do a lot of the things we’re doing right-the 75-percent of the things that we are doing right and add a little bit in terms of getting behind the defense and eliminate the counters against us.”
