FINAL — Sounders FC 1, Orlando City SC 1, training game updates

orlandocity.jpgAs was the case last week, Matt Gaschk’s live blog will be the primary source of these updates, so a lot more information will be available there. I’ll also pay attention to the Sounders FC and Orlando City SC Twitter accounts and post the highlights below.

* * *

Final: Sounders FC 1, Orlando City SC 1. Sammy Ochoa’s 53rd-minute equalizer canceled out a goal by OCSC Dennis Chin in the 27th minute.

Seattle starters went the first 30 minutes and left down a goal. The Sounders second string got a tying score, but only after OCSC made wholesale changes at the 45-minute mark.

Hard to tell what to take from this one, especially having not seen it, so we’ll wait to see what coach Sigi Schmid said.

Here are the guys that didn’t play today: GK Chris Blais, D Harlinton Gutierres, D/M Michael Tetteh, M Alex Caskey, M Andy Rose, M/D Amadou Sanyang, M Steve Zakuani, F Babayele Sodade

87′: PK MISS! Carrasco is fouled by the OCSC goalkeeper in the box to earn a penalty kick. His shot is denied by the crossbar. Would’ve been his second preseason goal.

85′: Yellow card to OCSC for a foul on Cato.

82′: Neagle is back on for Ochoa.

76′: Levesque and Cato sub on for Neagle and Sivebaek. Levesque goes to the left, Cato goes to the right.

74′: Sivebaek apparently OK and he continues to play and swing in crosses from the right.

67′: With Meredith playing now, here are the 10 who haven’t — GK Chris Blais, D Harlinton Gutierres, D/M Michael Tetteh, M Alex Caskey, F/M Cordell Cato, M Andy Rose, M/D Amadou Sanyang, M Steve Zakuani, F/M/D Roger Levesque, F Babayele Sodade

63′: Sivebaek is still playing, but gingerly according to Gaschk. Apparently Levesque was prepared to come in for him if needed. Bryan Meredith also subbed into the game for Weber at the start of the period.

61′: Unnamed Orlando City player receives a red card for a tackle on Sivebaek. The OCSC player will be replaced and the game will stay an 11v11. That’s two red cards involved in as many training games for Seattle.

61′: Third period has begun. Seattle fielding the same lineup, Gaschk says.

End of second period: Ochoa’s goal makes it 1-1 after 60 minutes. One more 30-minute period to go. I wonder if we’ll see any changes.

55′: Yellow card to Seamon, apparently the first of the game.

53′: GOAL SOUNDERS FC. Sammy Ochoa nets the equalizer on assists from Mike Seamon and Christian Sivebaek. Score tied 1-1.

45′: Nine new players are on for Orlando City. The first group appeared to acquit themselves very well, earning a 1-0 lead.

36′: Here are the 11 Sounders in Florida that remain — GK Bryan Meredith, GK Chris Blais, D Harlinton Gutierres, D/M Michael Tetteh, M Alex Caskey, F/M Cordell Cato, M Andy Rose, M/D Amadou Sanyang, M Steve Zakuani, F/M/D Roger Levesque, F Babayele Sodade

Interestingly, it appears Weber has gotten a lot of time with the No. 2’s. As mentioned in a previous post, the team might be more inclined to give him a closer look at the backup spot since his contract is guaranteed for the whole year if he signs.

31′: The second period has begun.

Start of second period: Wholesale changes, as anticipated, for the Sounders. Here’s the lineup that’s expected to play the rest of the game, maybe with a couple changes here and there…

GK Andrew Weber, D Zach Scott, D Andrew Duran, D Patrick Ianni, D Marc Burch, M Christian Sivebaek, M Servando Carrasco, M Mike Seamon, M Lamar Neagle, F Sammy Ochoa, F David Estrada

End of first period: Seattle’s starters shockingly beaten 1-0 after 30 minutes. We’ll see if they stay out there or not.

27′: GOAL ORLANDO CITY. Wow. The underdogs take the lead on a goal apparently by Dennis Chin. Their Twitter feed confirms. Orlando City up 1-0.

24′: Still no goals. The Sounders had six corner kicks in the first 15 minutes — all taken by Rosales. Gaschk notes that Seattle does not have a captain in today’s game. Apparently no decision has been made on that front.

12′: As expected, it sounds like Seattle’s starters are controlling the play and chances. Osvaldo Alonso had a shot denied by the crossbar off a feed by Mauro Rosales.

1′: The game has begun.

Pregame: Here are the starters (I anticipate them to play the first 30 minutes)…

GK Michael Gspurning, D Adam Johansson, D Jeff Parke, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mauro Rosales, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Alvaro Fernandez, F Mike Fucito, F Fredy Montero

Pregame: Gaschk says the match will consists of three 30-minute periods. He says one Sounders lineup will play two periods and another will play the third.

Pregame: Coach Sigi Schmid indicated the other day that the reserves will likely get the most time in this one. The starters are trying to establish a Wednesday-to-Wednesday routine starting in a couple days against the Columbus Crew.

Pregame: Kickoff is scheduled for about 1 p.m. Pacific Time. I haven’t seen the format of the training game yet — e.g. length of periods, number of periods. The game is open to the public if you’re in Florida and able to make it to the IMG Academy in Bradenton sometime soon.
