POLL: What do you think about the Eddie Johnson trade?

For me, Sounders FC’s acquisition of Eddie Johnson on Friday is an interesting one. The 27-year-old forward could flourish with the collection of offensive talent in Seattle. His speed makes him a breakaway threat. His size and athleticism makes him a target for crosses. With such physical tools, there’s a reason he transferred to Fulham and has earned 41 caps. And at a reported $100,000 salary, he’s a low risk financially.

On the other side, he hasn’t produced consistently since 2007. He’s bounced around clubs in England, Greece and Mexico — often on loan — and never stuck. He’s not the national team presence anymore. And, perhaps most importantly, he cost the Sounders two promising (yet still somewhat unproven) players in Mike Fucito and Lamar Neagle.

Ultimately, I think Sounders FC’s top-end potential is higher. It’s far from a sure thing, however, and depth took a hit.

What do you think?
