Updates on a few recovering Sounders

The day before Sounders FC’s preseason game against Mexico’s Jaguares de Chiapas, coach Sigi Schmid provided a quick update on a few guys still recovering from injury:

* * *

On Steve Zakuani (leg): “He’s been without (restriction). We sort of had him on a modified program where he want all-in one day and maybe he did three quarters of practice the next day and then off the next day. Now he’s in a situation where it’s just up to him a little bit on how he feels. He’s pretty much been all-in for a couple of days now. Today, we held him out at the very end. It’s still a process, he’s still working forward, but there’s definitely been a lot of progress that he’s made.”

On Eddie Johnson (hamstring): “Yeah, he was almost too active (today). He was running around a lot more than I expected. He says it feels alright. He (said) it’s a little sore, but it felt more sore like a workout-type of sore rather than a injury-type of sore. He felt pretty good and I think you guys could see a little bit — he’s got a good touch and he’s pretty composed in front of goal.”

On Josh Ford (knee): “Josh’s situation now is one where we really got to basically shut him down for the next six to eight weeks — he’s probably about two weeks into that — then at that point we can start to build him up. It’s sort of like a stress-reaction type of injury in his patella, so it’s just a matter of letting that completely calm down and then moving forward.”
