After a day off, the Sounders return to action Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Weeks of preparation have passed and only a couple days remain before Wednesday’s home leg of an important CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Mexico’s Santos Laguna.
Look out for some notes later this afternoon. Until then, here are some links:
* * *
— Santos Laguna beat San Luis 5-2 on Saturday behind four goals from Oribe Peralta Morones and jumped up to third in the table. That should provide for some momentum.
— Sounders FC part owner Drew Carey was apparently a big hit at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference.
— Here’s a story on American goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who credits Dean Wurzberger, a former UCLA assistant for Sigi Schmid, for kick starting his career.
— Is DaMarcus Beasley Twitter-flirting with the Chicago Fire?
— Kevin Baster of the Los Angeles Times caught up with Taylor Twellman. You might be able to guess the serious issue that was discussed.
— Here’s another look at the choice some high-school soccer players now have to face.
— Lastly, if Chelsea is indeed coming to Seattle this summer, the EPL club will do so with a new coach as Andre Villas-Boas was finally fired Sunday. What would you think if Chelsea came and didn’t play against the Sounders, but another team?
