CCL ticket sales at 18,500 (Monday links)

ccl logo.jpgThe latest update from the Sounders has about 18,500 tickets sold for Wednesday’s 7 p.m. CONCACAF Champions League home leg against Mexico’s Santos Laguna in the quarterfinal round.

Here’s a story I wrote for today’s paper trying to explain the importance of the game and why I feel the ticket sales don’t measure up.

I still think the crowd will get to about 25,000 with a walk-up crowd, but what do you think of the number two days from kickoff?

And some more links:

— After a bit of speculation it became official Monday morning: Kyle Martino will join Arlo White as the lead match analyst for the NBC Sports Group’s MLS coverage. Martino, formerly of FOX Soccer and ESPN, will be set up between the two benches during games and provide his commentary from there; White will be in the booth. Portland Timbers analyst Robbie Earle will serve as a studio analyst.

— The U.S. women lost 1-0 to Japan this morning in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. They Americans now won’t play in the final, but in a third-place match.

— Here’s a CCL preview, in Spanish, from the Santos Laguna perspective. It sounds like they could be without another top player, defender Rafael Figueroa, due to injury.

— One writer/sleuth tries to figure out what the L.A. Galaxy lineup will look like from its CCL game against Toronto FC.

— Here’s some early handicapping of the MLS MVP race. This writer has a Sounder as his pick. And here’s a look at Rookie of the Year odds.

— Former Sounder Tyrone Marshall says his Colorado side could be an exciting one to watch in 2012. Philadelphia has signed its third homegrown player. Sporting KC’s Aurelien Collin is an interesting guy.

Oops.

— Glasgow Rangers, which has a few Americans on the team, is in serious financial trouble. Maurice Edu, Carlos Bocenegra and Alejandro Bedoya play there.

— Fulham star Clint Dempsey scored two more goals Sunday, leading his side to a 5-0 rout of Wolves. What more can be said about this guy?
