POLL: How much should Johnson play?

johnson mug 2012.jpgSigns have been positive all week regarding Eddie Johnson‘s status for Wednesday’s 7 p.m. home game against Mexico’s Santos Laguna.

On Tuesday, Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid was asked again if he still expects the new forward to be available in the first CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal leg at CenturyLink Field.

“Yeah, definitely,” Schmid said. “He’s reacted well to everything, he’s been good with everything, so we’ll make a decision as to how much he plays tomorrow.”

Consequently, as it appears Johnson is fully recovered from the hamstring injury, Schmid was asked how he weighs playing time for the forward considering his top-end talent, yet still some unfamiliarity with the group.

“There are a lot of factors that go into the final decision,” the coach said. “One is that this is a two-game series. We’ve got this game, but we’ve also got the game away, so we want to make sure we have him available to us for both games. We don’t want to maybe overextend ourselves in game one and maybe not have him available to us in game two.

“(Having a) player with the experiences that he’s had playing overseas and playing with the national team, being able to maybe be in the starting lineup in game two is little more important than being in the starting lineup in game one just because of that. So you weigh that factor into it as well. That along with how is he physically, fitness-wise? How many minutes can he give realistically? You look at all those factors.”

What do you think?
