Highlights of a Thursday conference call with MLS commissioner Don Garber

MLS commissioner Don Garber held his annual State of the League conference call with reporters Thursday afternoon. There wasn’t a lot of news that hasn’t been covered before, so I was relatively quiet during the event.

It did go for about an hour and I’ve gathered some highlights I saw on Twitter to capture what was covered.

At one point Garber was addressed about the recent surge in popularity and he traced it to 2007 in Toronto.

“It certainly reached an entirely new level in Seattle,” he continued. “The first time I did the march to the match where I saw the fans come out in the pouring rain, and the first championship match we had up there in the pouring rain, (it showed the fans are always) there through thick and thin.”
