Here’s Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid on the weekend:

“I’m excited. We play our (training game against Oregon State) Saturday morning and I get to go home Saturday afternoon, maybe invite some people over, have some pizza, beer and watch soccer. Can you imagine? From 3:00 to 9:30 I get to watch soccer. It’s brilliant. To me, this is like the greatest weekend ever. We don’t have a game so I get to watch soccer all weekend. This is fantastic. I’m looking forward to all the games because you’re seeing teams in action for the first time.

“I’m looking forward to Montreal-Vancouver and that rivalry, and seeing Montreal play for the first time. I’m looking forward to the San Jose game. See what’s new with them and how New England’s new group is doing — how Kellen Rowe, a local kid, is doing. Looking forward to seeing Kansas City because they’re making a lot of noise, we’ll see if the noise is worthwhile. I want to see how Arlo (White) does on the telecast, how he works with his new color guy. Seeing the Red Bulls is fun, always interesting. Getting the first look at Chivas in a real game because obviously they’re probably not happy with how the preseason went. Seeing what L.A. does in terms of their lineup, because they’ve got to play between these [CCL] games. We’ll see how many guys they rest. It gives me a little indication of maybe what we’re going to do on the 17th. I’m looking forward to all those games.”
