Sounders FC adds midfielders Andy Rose and Alex Caskey

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgUPDATE 4:37 p.m. — Amadou Sanyang does not count toward the 30-man roster, which allowed for these two signings. I’m told Sanyang will be transferred to the Charleston Battery of the USL, a move that should be finalized in the next few days.

As had been anticipated, Sounders FC officially added midfielder Andy Rose and Alex Caskey to the roster Tuesday.

Rose was signed after having been acquired in a draft-day trade with Real Salt Lake. Caskey transferred to the Sounders from the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer Leagues; Seattle had drafted him in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft and owned his MLS rights.

Per league and team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed, but both are expected to be off-budget players that don’t count against the salary cap.

Rose, 22, will wear the No. 25 this season.

“Andy is a midfielder who has very good vision, good striker of the ball,” said coach Sigi Schmid in a news release. “His work rate is very good and he’s got some size so he’s good in the air. He can play in this league and make an impact.”

Caskey, 23, will take over the departed Lamar Neagle‘s No. 27 jersey, which is fitting for a players who took the long route to MLS via USL’s Charleston (much like Neagle).

“Alex is more of an attacking midfielder than a defensive midfielder,” said Schmid. “He has very quick feet, and he is a player that works very hard but also has that nose for goal and looks to get forward.”
